Elon Musk, the world's richest man, says he is a man of freedom of speech, despite opposition from Russia's military operation in Ukraine. So he will not shut down Russian news sources. Until his organization fell at gunpoint.
Western world-controlled tech giants, meanwhile, have banned Russia-controlled news networks RT and Sputnik. These include Apple, Google, Microsoft, Twitter, YouTube and Meta.
"All Russian news is propaganda," Musk said in response to a comment from an Internet user.
On Friday, Elon Musk called on Ukrainians to exercise caution in using the Sterlink satellite system. Because Musk thinks that since Starlink is a non-Russian satellite internet service, the Russians could target it and make its entire system useless.
Meanwhile, various fashion houses in the western world have closed their showrooms in Russia. Spanish fashion house Zara has closed 502 of its showrooms in Russia. PayPal, Visa and MasterCard have also suspended their services in Russia. Microsoft has also stopped selling their products and services in Russia. Earlier, major technology companies, including Apple and Dell, made similar decisions.
French luxury retailers LVMH, Hermes, Kering and Chanel have said they will close their Russian stores. Danish beer giant Carlsberg has stopped exporting and investing in Russia. Following the Russian military operation in Ukraine, Facebook, Google and YouTube have taken steps to restrict Russian state media from making money from advertising on their platforms.
